When it comes to weather and sea, the beaches and coastal areas of North Carolina are truly unique. Beneath our offshore waters lay the continental shelf, continental slope and the abysmal plain.
Jutting out from land and up from the sea floor are the shoals of Cape Fear, Cape Lookout and Cape Hatteras. Flowing through our sea is the Gulf Stream current which is met by the cooler northern flow. And within the physical boundaries of our outer banks is the second largest estuarine system in the country. All of this coupled with our geographical location along the eastern seaboard makes for Oceanic and Atmospheric conditions found nowhere else.
